Playoff hopes stay alive as Greenville controls match from start to finish
Greenville, SC (June 20, 2025) – The Greenville Liberty kept its momentum going with a 2-0 victory over the Birmingham Legion on Friday, pushing the team’s win streak to three. The victory kept Greenville’s hopes for a wild card spot alive with three matches to play.
Having already defeated Birmingham on the road earlier this season, Liberty took the pitch with confidence. The home side nearly opened the scoring early, but a would-be goal was ruled offside. Greenville kept pressing and found the breakthrough in the 31st minute when Mia Bookhard played a perfectly timed ball into space. Jaleah Simmons took over from there, beating her defender and burying a low-driven shot into the left side netting to make it 1-0.
The second half saw Birmingham try to respond, coming closest in the 75th minute when a long-range effort rattled the crossbar. But Greenville’s defense held firm.
In the 90th minute, the Liberty sealed the win in style. A cross from the right wing found Briyah Drayton in the box, who calmly finished to double the lead. The team held strong through stoppage time to secure the 2-0 result.
The win extends Liberty’s unbeaten streak to three and improves their record to 5-3-1. The team will be back at home for their final home match of the season on Tuesday, June 24, against Southern Soccer Academy at 7:00 PM.
