Greenville, SC (February 9, 2023)- The Greenville Liberty has announced the signing of Allanah Blye and Georgia Katsonouri for the 2023 season, pending league and federation approval.
Blye makes her return after appearing in a handful of matches for the club during its inaugural season. A budding goalkeeper in the USL W League, Blye fought her way into the Owls’ starting lineup at Kennesaw State University midway through her freshman season. She totaled 1,260 minutes of playing time, 93 saves, and ranked 4th overall in goals against average in the ASUN conference.
The Byrnes High School goalie excelled during her high school career, being named a four year starter, South Carolina All-Region in 2019 and 2021, and she rounded out her senior year with 149 saves, 12 penalty-kick saves and just four goals against. She shined as a youth player for Carolina Elite Soccer Academy, earning a spot at the prestigious ODP South Region Team Camp in 2017, 2018 and 2021, a USYS SC State Cup Championship in 2017, and a Jefferson Cup Championship in 2018.
Katsonouri joins the Liberty for her first season after prior appearances in the WPSL competing with Rochester United FC in 2021 and the ISC Gunners in 2022. She began her collegiate soccer career at the University of Kentucky in 2019. She then took her talents to The University of Evansville during the 2021 season, where she made appearances in 5 games, totaling 470 minutes, before being invited to the Cyprus national team for a UEFA Women’s Euro qualifier against Albania. The Paphos, Cyprus native was a standout during her youth club career, competing with Pafos FC Academy.
Georgia has earned the prestigious accolades of best goalkeeper in the Cyprus Women’s League for the 2017-18 season as well as being one of only two women to earn the opportunity to study and play soccer in the United States on an athletic scholarship. She is set to graduate in December of 2023 with a degree in Exercise Science and a minor Sports Psychology.
The powerhouse goalkeeper duo will take to the pitch alongside Liberty returners, Christian Brathwaite and Sarah Jacobs and club newcomer Mia Applegate. The Liberty will begin its second season this summer with hopes of clenching the division title and the W League trophy. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here.
