Mia Applegate returns to the Upstate for pre-professional debut
Greenville, SC (January 20, 2023)- The Greenville Liberty Soccer Club announced today the signing of Upstate local Mia Applegate pending league and federation approval. A forward from Greenwood, S.C., Applegate recently completed her freshman year at Barry University after being recruited at the USL Academy Cup 2022 tournament with the Greenville Triumph.
A feisty forward, Applegate appeared in 11 matches during her first collegiate season, starting in two and recording 300 total minutes. The freshman tallied one goal and one assist this season before Barry was eliminated in conference quarterfinals.
Prior to joining the Buccaneers, Applegate claimed both local and international soccer awards. While abroad, Applegate enforced her strong attacking presence, scoring 12 goals over five matches for the QSI International School of Astana in Kazakhstan. A two-time QSI Astana Athlete of the Year and 2019 Tournament MVP for the Central Asia Soccer Classic, Applegate was invited to train with BJMORSM in the pre-professional, Kazakhstan Second League. After returning stateside in 2022, Applegate laced up for Greenwood High School, leading the team with 15 goals and finishing her youth club career with Carolina Elite Soccer Club ECNL.
Applegate is the third player to be added to the 2023 Liberty roster. Since completing the final open tryout for this season, the team anticipates welcoming more new and returning players in the coming months. The team will kick off its sophomore season this summer at Paladin Stadium hoping for another chance at the division title and W League trophy.
