Liberty, Clemson defender to represent U.S. in upcoming international matches
Chicago, IL (June 16, 2022) – Greenville Liberty defender Megan Bornkamp was one of 21 players selected to represent the United States as the U-23 Women’s Youth National Team prepares to play its first international matches since 2019, the U.S. Soccer Federation announced Wednesday. Bornkamp, a rising junior at Clemson, was also selected for the U-23 National Team pool in March for exhibitions against three NWSL clubs. She will travel with the team to Europe for the upcoming international break, where they are scheduled to play friendlies against India and Sweden.
Bornkamp joined the Liberty for its 2022 inaugural season after completing her sophomore season at Clemson University. In 2021, she was named a third-team All-American and first team All-ACC among many honors. The Mooresville, North Carolina native has added on to her collegiate accolades with a standout season for the Liberty, scoring four goals and tallying an assist through five matches played while keying a Liberty defensive effort that has helped the club remain unbeaten through eight matches.
Bornkamp was one of three Greenville players to the inaugural W League Team of the Month, joining teammates Christian Brathwaite and Caroline Conti. Greenville was the only W League club to have three players recognized with Team of the Month honors.
The club will look to continue its undefeated start when they host Wake FC on Saturday, June 18th, at 6:00 PM at Triumph Stadium.
