Liberty adds one returning and three new players
Greenville, SC (April 25, 2024) – The Greenville Liberty Soccer Club gears up for the 2024 season with four roster additions, pending league and federation approval. The club welcomes back returning defender Cambelle Roberson and new signees Ella Schneider, Lauren Monday, and Lela Stark to the team. The Home Opener is just right around the corner, so make sure to get your tickets for the 2024 season!
Cambelle Roberson
From right down the road, defender Cambelle Roberson, returns to the Liberty for a second season. Roberson appeared in one match during Greenville’s inaugural season in 2022, recording almost a full 90 in her debut. That fall, the Greenville local began her collegiate career at Furman University, where she made an immediate impact starting in all 19 matches. With another season under her belt, Roberson recorded a total of 1,671 minutes throughout 35 matches and five points, including one goal and three assists.
A graduate from Wade Hampton HS, the standout defender received many recognitions throughout her time competing, including:
- WHHS two-time team captain
- All-State Team
- 4x All-Region Team
- Named to Viking Cup All-Tournament Team as a freshman
- Won the Crescent Cup
- Clash of the Carolina’s Region Player of the Year
Roberson was also a member of CESA ECNL where she was voted team captain for the 2017-18 season and played in two ECNL Nationals.
Ella Schneider
Granville, Ohio native, Ella Schneider joins the club after a standout season at Ashland University. The soon-to-be sophomore started in all 23 matches and tallied nine points, with four goals and one assist in her first season as an Eagle. Despite missing her senior season due injury, Schneider was a two-year captain and consistent starter for Granville High School. She earned many achievements in her time playing, including:
- 2X First Team All-Conference
- Second Team All-Conference
- First Team All-District
- Second Team All-District
- 2X Sportsmanship award
Lauren Monday
Greenville brings on defender, Lauren Monday for the 2024 season. The Anderson, SC native played one season at Centre College before transferring to Sewanee University of the South where she will play for the 2024 season. As a Centre Colonel, Monday appeared in 18 matches, made 10 starts and totaled 1,089 minutes on the pitch. A graduate of Christ Church Episcopal, Monday was recognized on many occasions for her athletic efforts, including:
- SCHSL A All-State
- SCHSL A All-Region
- First Team All-Greenville
The defender, who previously competed for CASA Pride at the club level and participated in the Clash of the Carolinas competition, also served as a member of the U19 Girls Greenville Triumph Academy Team. Now, as she prepares for her 2024 collegiate season, Monday will join the Liberty for the summer.
Lela Stark
Midfielder, Lela Stark joins the Liberty squad for the summer. A native of Ontario, Canada, Stark has spent two seasons at App state, appearing in 36 matches and recording one goal and one assist. Stark finished the 2023 season with 12 shots, eight of which were on target. The midfielder is set to join Oral Roberts University’s Golden Eagles for the 2024 season after training with them this past spring. Marcella Helena Alves, a former Liberty player, also transferred to Oral Roberts.
Prior to beginning her collegiate career, the midfielder attended Parry Sound High School where she was named the Athlete of the Year, competing in not only soccer but golf, field hockey, basketball, and cross country. At the club level, Stark competed for Rockwood FC for one season and Waterloo United for two seasons, before playing for the Guelph Union League One Premier Team.
