New women’s team to train on Furman campus
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Greenville Liberty Soccer Club and Furman University have announced a partnership that will see expansion pre-professional women’s soccer club call Furman’s campus home for training, the club announced today.
The partnership will allow the Liberty to utilize Furman’s athletics facilities, including Paladin Stadium and Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium, to train in the preseason and regular season. The Liberty opened their season this past Sunday on the road against the Charlotte Independence with a 4-2 win.
“We are incredibly excited to call Furman University the Official Training Home of the Greenville Liberty,” said Greenville Triumph/Liberty President, Chris Lewis. “Furman has a tremendous presence in the Upstate, and AD Jason Donnelly and his team are doing great work to integrate Paladins Athletics into our community. We are proud to join them in those efforts and to be able to offer the facilities and resources the University provides to Julie, her staff and our Liberty players.”
Greenville Liberty SC’s squad features former Paladins Caitlin Reilly and Grace Baghdady, current Paladins Camryn Bolick, Cameron Whitacre, Maggie Miller and Riley Parsons, and future Paladin Cambelle Roberson.
The Liberty is a sister team to the Greenville Triumph Soccer Club, a men’s professional team that began play in 2019. Triumph SC competes in USL League One and has appeared in three straight league finals, including winning the title in 2020.
The Upstate’s pre-rofessional women’s soccer team will be led by head coach Julie Carlson. Carlson has over 20 years of coaching experience, takes the helm after most recently serving as the director of operations for Clemson’s women’s soccer program.
The club’s first home match will be on Friday, May 20, against NC Courage U23 at Legacy Early College at 7 p.m.
